Enjoy a Momentous Trip to Hepburn Regional Park
Cradled around the famous mineral springs villages of Hepburn
Springs, Hepburn and Daylesford, Hepburn Regional Park is a natural
wonder to behold. Natural Mineral Springs throughout the park can be
found around just about every corner. There are hand pumps and
continuous flowing pipes that allow you to drink your fill and even
refill your cups or bottles to take with you on any of the walks or
hikes you choose to explore.
Throughout the park, you will also find multiple species of native
birds and animals inhabiting the area. Watch them all you would like,
take pictures if you can, but remember to be kind and courteous as this
is their home. The Black Wallaby and Eastern Grey Kangaroo, in addition
to, Yellow Robins, Crimson Rosellas, and a variety of honeyeaters are
sure to fascinate wildlife lovers of all ages.
The incredible vegetation includes a large sampling of dry, open
eucalypt forest where dominant species such as Broad-leaved Peppermint,
Red Box, and Red Stringybark can be found everywhere. Springtime brings
an impressive bouquet of colorful wildflowers. Just remember while you
are visiting that all of the native plants are protected to ensure their
survival for many generations to come.
Within the park there are many opportunities for exploring, whether
by foot, mountain bikes or horse back that will keep you busy for hours
on end. Riders will enjoy the challenges provided through the old mining
or logging tracks. Walkers, or hikers also have a number of tracks
available based on the physical condition of the walker. Always ensure
you wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for whichever forms
of exploration you choose to use.
The Tipperary Walking Track is a 16km track that runs roughly five to
six hours from beginning to end. However, if you would like to shorten
that time a bit, there are tracks on both sides of Sailors Creek that
allow for loop walks of various distances. Tipperary follows through a
picturesque area going from Lake Daylesford, around to the Hepburn
Mineral Springs Reserve, continues around Sailors Creek and Spring Creek
through mostly forested foothills. Although it is a rather easy walk,
there are no wheelchair accessible facilities for this particular track.
Access to the mineral water is down steep stairs and the toilet areas,
picnic tables and low fireplaces are not suitable for wheelchair access.
There are multiple guided tours that can be taken through the Park,
such as Bushwalking Guides, Four Wheel Drive Tours, Mountain Bike Racing
and Horse Trail Riding just to name a few.
Regardless of what time of year or what your preferences are for
getting around this magnificent piece of historical ground, take a hat
to keep the sun off your shoulders, plenty of water bottles (to fill
from the springs) and clothing suited for your activities. With these
things in mind, there is no reason why you would not have an adventure
to remember for years to come with whomever you choose to be your trip
companion!
